I installed one of these shifters in late 70's, early 80’s in a Challenger. I used the factory rods which did require some minor massaging like Cab_Burge indicated. I remember having to add approximately .25"-.50" of rod / swivel adjustment by cutting more thread on the rod for proper alignment. In this application the shifter bolted on to the stock shifter plate location.

The other option (which I never tried) was to mount the shifter using the relocation bracket as seen in TJP's picture. This raised the shifter but allowed the use of the straight rods (i.e. Ramrod) which was designed more for racing. It may have slightly altered the shifter location from the factory opening in the hump as well??

I do recall having to slit my shifter boot. Funny how much heat came through that little slit too. As you can see, I was able to retain my center console. As I recall these were called Hurst Super Shifters.
