"Manual/automatic" is a marketing term, even a bone stock VB is manual/automatic.

Rather than replacing the VB, why not modify yours with a Transgo TF-2? It'll work as good or better.

I humbly disagree with this..... I had a TF-2 Kit in my 727 for a few years. It still relies upon the throttle pressure linkage to control varying fluid pressure. Mine used to hold a gear even after I had shifted. I had to back off the pressure linkage when I was at the track in order to get it to respond to my shift input consistently, but then had to adjust it back up for it to work correctly on the street correctly. Depending on your expectation level: As good?... maybe???. Better? No. If your expectation is that your transmission will shift when you bang the gear EVERY time... a full manual is the only way to go.
