The inlet line needs to be bigger than the feed line. #8 min or even better #10 line(1/2") I know people will say theirs works great with 5/16" suction line, but that has not been my experience.
Many blue pump failures and vapor lock situations occure because of line sizing.imo

Your filter should be on the outlet side of the pump so the pump gets full flow from the tank now that you have a clean fuel cell and you can strain your fuel when you add it.
