Myself, the racing and "beating" the other guy is way low on my list of satisfaction, nor do I care about beating other brands. My goal is to take what I have and make it run the best it can. Could care less if somebody else is in the other lane. I don't race for money really and never have, because recouping your investment is not possible. This best describes my reasons. I do enjoy going to the track more, when friends are there, to share the "Agony of defeat", and the "Thrill of Victory"!
