A better way would be to go to a fasteners store and get what I've known as "mechanical lock nuts"

These look similar to castle nuts, except that they are "crimped" a little to go on tight. Some brands aren't castellated, but have a rather odd looking crimp on top. These go on hard all the way and stay put
