It's pretty straight forward of a setup. The connecting collar just slides over and engages both splines when locked. You probably already know that though. If I recall, the collar stays on the outer stub of axle when in 2 wheel drive, and then when 4x4 activated, it slides towards right side of truck when activated. The vacuum signal remains for either the 2 wheel position or 4 wheel position. So if you had a live vacuum hose handy, you could slip it on one or the other of the 2 actuator nipples, and the fork will go one way or the other depending on which nip was chosen. I must be the only one who has not had issues with this CAD system, although many here have had rusted lines, cracked hoses, or the switch on transfer case problems.
