My opinion of what an acceptable amount of play/slop in a recirculating ball steering is most certainly biased coming from nothing but Rack and pinion steering. But I feel like the current box is sloppy and has been since the day it was installed (about 10 years ago, before I ever started driving the van). The front end is nice and tight, pot coupler is fine, steering effort is smooth but it feels like driving a coach bus. For every 1 complete turn of the wheel it feels like 1/4 of that is nothing but lost motion.
