And to that end (while I don't have any photos handy) I have recently heard of just such an animal from a very knowledgable/believable guy, he said he has one (untouched, unrestored car) that was stamped like that, right into the cast iron where there would be a raised pad but was none (66 Hemi block in a 68 Hemi car).

On a related note, here's something you don't see everyday, look where this Hemi block got stamped! This was sitting next to the car it originally came in and is absalutely authentic.
