...and, as stated above, on the 68 cars the vin sequence number was stamped on the engine block on top of the bellhousing flange on the as cast surface....same numbers are found on the trasmission.

...But those numbers dont match the body stampings as they would on 69 and later cars, what matches the body stampings is the sequence or production number on the fender tag. the fender tag of course will have the code for the HEMI engine.

So on a 68 car is very important to have both the VIN tag and the fender tag to confirm that both the body and the vin belong to a high performace car if the drivetrain is missing (which as we know is very common on the hemi cars)...
