Mike, looks like to me that those little bars were welded to hold the plate that the motor plate bolts to....rather than just using an "L" off the frame rail.

I didn't use one for years on my RB Mirada... until I was chasing a tail shaft breakage issue, then we installed one. That wasn't the problem.
