Make sure that you use a quality load equalizing hitch and use the bars at all times with that load. Make sure that the brakes are working and apply slightly before the truck brakes. You want the trailer to hold the truck back not the truck stopping the total load.
I used to tow a 2 horse Miley trailer that also had a 4 food dressing/tack room with a generatio 2 4X4 Dakota mostly in the relatively flat eastern Dakotas and also towed an open car trailer. Not a problem but not in a hurry to get places and always left myself room.
