Inner fenders are a substantial part of the front clip. Need to think about snout bars or something to support that nose if you remove the OE stuff
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Is the OP asking about the inner fender which is part of the unibody structure or the inserts that are in and behind the wheel? I’m thinking here referring about the inserts. You mean splash shields? The shields that keep debris out between the fender and door?

Someone did those pieces in lightweight material for the AH '68 cars. Not sure who. Google maybe?
