Took the 8 3/4 out of the Dart and put in Dana. Without other changes, how much did anyone else have to shorten the shaft? Just want to make sure my measurement is within reason. I show my drive shaft should be cut 1.5"
Thanks,
Lon

I did the same thing only in a b-body, I checked the parts books and the dana shaft was right around a 1in. shorter in the mopar book, I made mine and 1 1/4in shorter.

From the center of the axle shaft to the center of the u-joint is 12.35" on the 8 3/4" and 13.47 on the Dana 60 so the actual difference is 1.120" (1 1/8").

hey. try to keep the yoke as far in the trans as possible. better spline contact. more stable when u wack on it. stay safe, seeya, Rick.

I didn't have to shorten the shaft on my Duster when I switched from a 8 3/4 to the Dana 60 I did have to use a adapter U joint to go from the 7260 drive shaft yoke to the 1330 Dana pinion yoke My car does have ladder bars and the trans yoke was a little short(sticking out to far) before so it would really pay you to put your tans yoke in and let the car sit on jack stands under the rear end housing so the car is at ride hieght and then measure from the center of the trans yoke(slide it in all the way and pull it out one inch before measuring)to the center of the pinion yoke and check out the length needed versus your current driveshaft

Just dont go whacking some arbritary figure off your shaft. Measure what you have and Use this event to optimize the driveshafts length.
