going through my secret stash of engines this evening and i was surprised by 2 engines that i forgot i had received in a trade for some brand x stuff that i had lying around..all the guy new about them was that they were MOPAR's...when he called me he said he had no idea what they were but he figured i would...well he was wrong..lol.i recognize both engines but i can't make a positive i.d..The first engine is a slant6 the only markings i can find are on the side of the block...2806830-5..the second engine is a rb/block but it doesn't have casting #'s i recognize..the upper pad reads 1209 w/ a maltese (sp.) cross (which i believe means under sized crank)also has P41..and on the side of the block are casting #2120529-1..also a little diff. date it reads..9*14*9..i looked it over pretty good and couldn't find any other markings.(but it's pretty greasy)i hope this is enough info..all help would be appreciated..

If I were guessing I'd say it's a 1960 413. What is the casting date ?

Nick is correct on the RB. The /6 is a 225- I'm guessing all years of 225 used the same casting #.

...date casting is 9*14*9...i thought it to be strange because i don't believe i've ever saw a date code with the year reading like that ..the heads for this eng. are diff. also.they have the pedestal mounts for the shafts.thanks for the replys...

Yes, you just confirmed it, that's a 1960 413 engine. I have one just like it. The heads are unique castings, you'll notice that they don't have the bolt holes tapped for alternator hardware as those had generators that mounted differently.

thanks for the confirmation...Scott, have you had any of these early 413's sonic checked? can't you put 426 pistons in these?

Yes, most are fine with 426 sized pistons, that's how mine is built, I went with Diamond forged pistons and a stock stroke crank. BTW, you likely have the old 413 8 bolt truck crank, it's a bit longer than later cranks and will not bolt up to modern torque converters (made for the old direct bolt on converters found in cast iron transmissions of the days) there was no flex plate. Soooo, I swapped in a 65 413 6 bolt crank (same as a 440 etc.) so mine will now work with any post 1965 trans or converter. Stroker kits are cheap now, I'd have gone that way if I were to do it again today.

are these heads worth anything as far as performance?...or are they only desireable for resto guys?

Pretty much a resto head, small valves, 4 bolt valve cover design, no big deal heads, basically identical to 516 heads, just cosmetically unique due to the lack of machined bolt holes. Mine were rusted up in the chambers so I looked for a replacement set, took a while but I found some on ebay for $75.00 complete. So, value wise? Not much, desirability wise? Depends on who needs them.
