Hi All

Will looking in to painting the superbird ...
Does anyone have the mix% for Tor Red / EV2...

I know nothing about paint .. but all the paint supply shops say they dont have any books that go back that far... So if I can find the paint mix... they can mix it for me ...

Any other wisdom any of you have learned would be helpful as well...

Thanks
David

I fed this to my body shop when they painted my Vitamin C Road Runner. It turned out good with no problems.

They used Dupont. But the chart cross references other brands too.

Go to a different paint store. The one you went to must have people that don't know how to use their system correctly. Should be in their computer. I've had it mixed at several different places. The main thing I have found is just tell the V2 as the paint code and the color is Hemi Orange. The "E" throws the computer off for some reason.

David,

I ordered my EV2 from TCP Global (858-909-2110) in San Diego. They have PPG enamel since that to me looks original.

The PPG number is 2186

Good luck.

Chris

Thanks

I just dont want to pay to have paint mixed and get there to pic it up and find out it Vida C and not Red ....

Funny TCP Global is the only people that have the coating that i used to make the yellow head/fog light for the bird ....

So the two of you both happy how close the Red is to the stock color

What is the better paint ... DUPONT or PPG ??????

ONE more thing what is the goop that the factory used between the front fender and inner fender of the motor bay ....

I am very happy with the color on my car. Funny thing happened - my brother had his 70 Charger painted in base coat / clear coat. My 71 Challenger in enamel single stage.

My brother thinks my car is too red. I think my brother's car is too close to Vitamin C orange, his car is too light.

I compared my car to some PPG Hemi Orange that I bought 20 years ago - it's dead on. So I am very happy that the color is correct. I have nothing but good luck with PPG.

As for the foam, I used Expandable Foam from SEM. It's not cheap and it sets up pretty fast so I put it on and flattened with a puddy knife. Let if cure and then mounted the fender later. It looks factory after paint.

Here is my 1970 EV2 Challenger painted with single stage PPG Concept #dcc 2186. I was very happy with color match. Make sure it is mixed well.

"Autocolorlibrary.com" will have the original paint codes on their web site and will also mix the colors in PPG or their house brand "Restoration Shop" and mail the paint to you. They made some plum crazy for me in PPG that turned out well. I have used their "restoration shop" brand on DD's and it worked fine as well.

I'm not Snoopy or the other poster but I will answer since no one else did.
The 'L' after the number stands for Lucite laquer, the 'A' is for Acrylic enamel (Centari), the 'D' is for Dulux synthetic enamel. The 'H' is a price code. Not sure about the 'P' off the top of my head.

Dodge calls EV2 Hemi Orange, Plymouth calls EV2 Tor Red. Same paint color code and yes that is the color of my Challenger(EV2).

If the car is original paint and a Superbird, it had both lacquer and acrylic enamel on it
Lacquer on the nose from Creative Industries and enamel on most of the car from Chrysler.
Delstar DAR-2186 from PPG will match the factory enamel very well; I've actually panel painted & done blends with it on original paint survivor cars.

Use a hardener in it and your gloss will be close. A light buff on everything and it'll look great.

I did some panel painting on this car using acrylic enamel with hardner. And as Rick mentioned I gave all of the car a light buff with a foam pad and micro finishing compound. The repainted panels matched the originals nicely. Original single stage paint has a unique look and texture that's hard to duplicate in bc/cc.

While most assembly plants used the foamy looking sealant, Lynch Rd. cars seem to have used a black material that's more like strip caulk. (That's what your picture looks like as well).
The only problem with strip caulk, is that it stays soft and is easily damaged. I prefer to use a regular seam sealer and shape it for the same appearance.

Yes the can I have has 2186 on it and it looks the same RED as on Snoopy's label. That red scares you when you first see it because the actual paint on primer is more orange, but DDR-2186 is a great match as Rick said.

Since you are trying to match the paint I suggest what Rick said or hiring an expert to try match it.

Or you could sell the car to me and stop argueing with your wife
