Hi, I am using a 440 Eagle crank with 4.25 stroke only to find the mains are .0005 oversize giving me under .002 thou of clearance on the mains. Same issue on the rods but because they are BBC size I found the +.001 bearings for them.
Does anyone make +.001 mains for the 440?
FWIW Another issue with these Eagle cranks with the BBC rods is they leave the journels Chrysler width so I ended up with .060 thou of side clearance . I fixed this issue using the K1 Rods that are Chevy size and Chrysler width.
This is hopefully the last time I will have to work with Eagle Cranks

You should be able to regain that .0005 during the align hone. As long as you have "crush" you can tweak your main clearances during the line hone.

that's good, because the most you can gain by adjusting ther bore size is .0002 and still be in spec.

what brand of bearing are you using currently? it's possible you may gain some clearance with a different brand of bearing. we normally adjust the main clearance by adjusting the crasnk journal size if a different bearing won't give us what we're looking for.
i'm surprised with a crank .0005 big you can even get .002 clearance.

Thanks for the reply. You are correct we have just under .002 of clearance. We are using the Clevite 1277 bearings to take advantage of the larger thrust area and the full grove. I also have a set of Clevite 1795V and a set of FM bearings here. Do you think its possible to pick up .001 in another set of bearings?

Your best bet is with the F/M 119M. They typically are at LEAST +.0005 ( if not more) over the Clevites for the most part.

Yep, that can be a problem with the "bargain" cranks. You end up spending more time and money making them work properly. The engine builder I work with usually just ends up taking the mains 0.010 under in order to get the clearance correct. With a Chevy engine you can buy different bearings but with a Mopar you often have to polish or grind the crank to make it come out correctly.

Is that the MS-1277HG or the MS-1277P ?

I have been using the HG series and have good main bearing clearance (0.003"). But my crank dia is 2.7493"

I think Calico Bearings has -.001 under bearings plus you can have them coated with there oil retaining film. Best bearings out there. Give them a call and tell Jerry that N.B.E. Racing Engines told you to call.
