The valves are really clacking in my hemi (66 block, Dart Alum heads, stock valve train) I pulled the valve covers last night- at least one is WAY out of whack. I'm curious as to which method I should use to adjust them? 1 cylinder at a time? TDC then 1/2 rotation method? What should I set them at- I had it written down- but can't find it. Any other suggestions? Thanks Moparts-
Adjust 1 cylinder at a time. Watch the exhaust, when it starts opening adjust the intake on that cylinder. When the intake is almost closed adjust the exhaust. 1/2 turn is the pre-load.

Nope- solid lifters and comp cam. Found the sheet .012 intake .014 exhaust.
Well that's different you first explained you had a 1/2 turn SO I THOUGHT YOU HAD A HYDRAULIC. Now use the same procedure and use a feeler gauge to set lash.

NO - A 66 Hemi has solid lifters. There is lash not preload. unless of coarse you have used a later model stock valvetrain that has a hydraulic cam and lifters.
stock valve train has nothing to do with what cam is used.

Logan- 1/2 turn is the pre-load? please explain. Hopefully see ya at Mopars in the Park- especially if it doesn't rain- lol
I just knew sooner or later you would bring RAIN up. I will be in the 71 car display in the building, but I'm hoping for no rain as well.

Take off dist cap & hand turn the crank till the rotor is lined up w #1 plug and timing marks are at TDC & adj #1 cyl intake valve so a .011" feeler gauge has no drag and a .013" feeler blade has a slight drag then tighten the adjuster and on the ex adj till a .013" has no drag and a .015" has a slight drag then tighten the adjuster. (hand) turn crank till the rotor is at the same (relative) location on #8 plug wire & repeat above & so on around the firing order. If the plugs on a Hemi come out easy it'd sure make it easier to (hand) turn

Thanks Robert- plugs are out- had to, to pull VC's. As well as a whole lot of other crap- took me 2 hours just to get them off-

Robert- It's a beast when running- but in hind sight- I think I woulda gone w/hydralics. Here's a breakdown of what it took to pull VC's Passenger- Shaker off, unhook heat control valve from inner, flip it up and out of way, drop pass shock, loosen Motor mount, jack up pass side of motor, loosen heater fan for clearance, plugs out, vc nuts off- unhook some of the wiring harness, barely comes out. Drivers side, plugs, nuts, unhook brake lines from master, unhook brake pedal, and 4 nuts holding booster. I'm sure I'm not remembering something. Unfortunately, I'm getting faster at it, and I don't even have my A/C hooked up yet. Last weekend I took a buddy for a ride- shifted out of 3rd @ 110mph- I wonder what the top end would be? Keisler 5 speed, Dana 60 w 3.23's and 295/45/18 in back. Wild ride!

Yeah- I figured you'd like that. Want to line the 71's up?
If I were going to bring my 70 AAR Cuda with the crossram hemi I would take you up on that.
