i have a slant 6 in a 1978 D100 thats getting terrible gas mileage. i know its not running correct as it smells like gas bad when running and fouls the plugs. its got a 1 barrel carb on it. i am looking for tips on where to get a carb kit and some things to check to get it running like it should. I have had 2 other trucks with slants in the that got way better mileage and had the 2 barrel carb on them, any tips would be great, thanks!

Stuck open would hurt your mileage from startup to warmed up in cold weather but wouldn't b what's making it run rich, go inside the carb & check it out for that

Might want to crack open the carb and check the jets. I had a reman Holley 1bbl on my 72 Dart that had a jet 6 sizes larger than the book called for. Mileage improved a lot once I put the right jet in it.

Don't be the exception.

That's your problem right there! Get rid of that crappy 1bbl Holly, they seem to be nothing but headaches. I had a heck of a time trying to get mine to run half way decent at all. Upgraded to a 2bbl manifold and a Weber DVG on it and have been soooooooooo happy since.
