Does the vinyl roof material extend over the portion of the roof where the bright drip rail molding mounts? I'm replacing the bright drip rail molding on my '69 GTX because it is all marked up from the previous owner or someone prying it over the vinyl roof material and I can see why I'm not able to get it over the material/lip without maybe expanding the molding or cutting the material off of that area? Should there be vinyl roof material on the, I guess you would call it the outside and top of the bright drip rail molding attachment area? I'll go get a photo of what I'm writing about and be back in a moment...........................

Bill I need to compare the molding I took off to the molding that I'm trying to get on....pretty sure the molding I'm trying to put on came off of a non-vinyl roof car and I spent several hours last night buffing the cr@p out of it and it sure looks nice, maybe all for nothing........but if it is specific then you stopped me from screwing up the vinyl roof

IMHO you have too much material on the drip edge, on a vinyl roof install, I trim the material off right at the peak of the drip edge, leaving nothing on the face of the gutter channel, this leaves enough for the back edge of the moulding to bite the material, and allow the moulding to "snap" over the gutter edge,.....I've never had an issue with installing vinyl tops on A,B, or E bodies using mouldings from vinyl or non vinyl equipped cars

I'm with Mike on this one...I've never seen anybody wrap the vinyl around the drip rail like that before, mind you...I've been stuck in E Body land for the last 6 years

Well that was the original question; if the vinyl material wrapped around or was on the top and outside of the drip rail......so you guys think I should cut off the outside of the drip rail vinyl material?

I just peeled the vinyl roof off my Dart last night, the material wraps around. It was the same way on my Duster too.

I can take a picture when I get off work if you like but what you show in your photos is correct.

From the factory there are two different sets....one for vt cars and one set for cars without. The repros are made somewhere in the middle.

On my 69 GTX the material on the original top was cut 1/2 way down on the face of the channel where the drip rail attaches too (over the top but does not wrap around to the bottom)if that makes sence. I also beleive their are two different styles of dril rails, one for a top and one without a top.

I have noticed on the backside of factory moldings off vinyl top cars that they have a green tint. IMO that must have been so the assembly line workers could tell them apart

I just did a 67 R/T top and when I took it off it was wrapped around just like your picture. It was an original top.

Thanks for the hint on the greenish tint!

FWIW, I have a set of non-vinyl, vinyl, and repops. I took a few measurements off each. The first measurement is of the close ends of the "C" that face toward the car. The second measurement is the best I can do for the interior large dimension. The original ones were a little distorted at the ends (imagine that! ). The last dimension is the OD. Here's what I got...

Original non-vinyl - 0.380" / 0.470" / 0.510"
Repop - 0.420" / 0.490" / 0.520"
Original vinyl - 0.430" / 0.510" / 0.530"

I haven't tried putting the repops on a vinyl top car yet, but it does seem like from the measurements that they should be close enough to make it.

Not to many vendors would go to the trouble to take the time to dig for the items, measure them and then post the info like you did....there are only a few and they always seem to be Moparts members (there's another in this thread too), that's why I always support members like you and the others......

I know where I'm getting a set of bright drip rail trim now http://www.521restorations.com/index.pl?page=bbody

Moulding: Drip Rail
1968 1969 1970 Plymouth Belvedere/Satellite/RoadRunner/GTX - Drip Rail Moulding set (6pc set).
