I banged up an oil pan and replaced it....now I have a pesky oil drip while the car is running. Does it sound reasonable that a rear main seal has now started leaking after I changed to a new oil pan? Am I the only one that has these crazy problems??

I would doubt that the main is leaking now if it wasnt
before... I would think the pan is the issue

I hope you are right.....However, I've tried 3 times to get the new pan to seal and it seems that I've only lessened the leak. It has gotten better with my repeated attempts. There are too many things to get back together easily. Crank scrasper, windage tray and then the heavy 9 quart Milodon pan with swinging pick up.

I doubt it's the rear seal also. Some times if the pan bolts are over tightened it will cause the gasket to squish out causing a leak, also if a pan bolt is over tightened it will deform the pan rail and not tighten up correctly. Slight tap with a hammer will straighten that out.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

UPDATE... It seems that my last attempt finally achieved success! Right Stuff on the crank scraper, left out the windage tray and a Superformance gasket on the pan. I also slathered Right Stuff on the pan bolt threads that go in the main seal adapter.

Right Stuff is great stuff, the Moroso pan on my 363 inch small block always seems to leak with Right Stuff it doesn`t!
