The last time the shaft needed replacing on the passenger side it was a nightmare. It would not even press out of the bearing on the knuckle with a 50 ton spring shop press.

I now have to fix the drivers side. Any tips.

I would like to fix this on the cheap as it is a beater for my son. The car has been in the family since new, and it is the 'devil we know', with respect to repair history.

Too many cars, too many parts, too little coin, too little space to work in, too little time left to make it all happen! Update: down to one ride, still too many parts, a little more jingle in the pocket, gaining space, and it's going to happen this year!

I have the knuckle and cv shaft off the car in one piece.
Guess I'll soak the splined area with penatrating oil, and look for a big press Monday.

It's common for the splines to be frozen to the bearing on these cars. Especially on cars that have seen salted roads.

Just look forward to killing it and expect to replace the wheel bearing.

I was lucky this time. I took the knuckle and shaft off and had LPS soaking the splines overnight. About 10 tons of press, a few good wacks with a heavy hammer.

I bought a new wheel bearing/hub just because of the mileage and age. I put anti seize on the splines.

Had it running Monday night, alignment done today. Hopefully my son can drive it for a few more years safely.
