Pretty much stock 360 running 2 1/2 inch from the manifolds through high flow cats and Flowmasters. No crossover pipe and I love the sound of it BUT would I gain anything by cutting in a cross pipe X or H ? and where, front of cats or between cats and mufflers?
Thanks for any input.
Jeff

The majority of posters here who have had NOISE issues have gotten the most improvement with an X pipe. I would think the best location would be as close to the collector reducers as possible.

Straight duals without crossovers gives you the classic V8 sound. X-pipes seem to quiet things down based on others experiences, and improve flow because of the scavenging effect (think header like). H-pipe would be somewhere in between I think.

Probably nothing I avoided this because x and h pipes can be a pain when it comes to working on a car.

Straight duals will make your motor sound much more aggressive. A H will mellow things a little, but a X just changes the sound completely. With manifolds, I don't think you are going to see a gigantic difference either way. Maybe a little more power with the H than straight duals, but I don't think the X is worth it because I really don't like the X pipe sound clips I've heard.

I have a low 12 sec car that I race in the Pure Stock Drags with exhaust manifolds and a TTI mandrel bent system with ultra flow mufflers that I made up a H,a X, and straight pipes with 3 bolt flanges and went to Englishtown and was able to make back to back runs and have all the results in a half hour, not one this weekend and the other next month. I could change the pipes in less than 10 minutes. The results were that NONE of them made any improvement in ETs over the others. All runs were within a few hundreths in the ET. The straights were the best of the 3. The X was made with mandrel bent pipes and a good X. The straights were the loudest, but sounded the best, next was the H, then the X. Both the H and the X sounded very similar at idle and under full throddle. Jim Spetzman

I've got a TTI 2.5" system on the Demon with a mild 340 and a 4 gear. Mike at TTi recommended the H over the X untill he said you hit over the 450hp mark. Under 450 the X pipe does nothing or so little it's not worth the work. I have no problem with the H, but I bouth the t clamps instead of the normal muffler clamps. The exhaust comes apart very easily.

My brother has a 3.5" x-pipe setup on an olds 455. Doesn't sound like a V8 anymore, not to me at least. It's loud, but sounds more like a hopped-up crotch rocket or snowmobile engine. It also makes the engine sound like it's turning more rpm than it actually is. My brother shifts at a little over 6K and the engine sounds like it's at 9K. Weird!

Whatever system you choose weld collector rings on it so you can take it apart if you need to work on the car. One peice exhaust systems are a real hassle if you need to pull the transmission.

Thanks for the input guys, I think the exhaust remains the same and I go on to something else to spend my money on.

I use the H-pipe on my 63 with 3" exh and Ultra-Flow mufflers. I race it thru the exh and I can also tell you its not as loud as my sons Dart that has no H or X pipe. Ron
