Does anybody know if the flywheel 440source sells here http://store.440source.com/1045-Billet-Steel-Flywheel-New/productinfo/113-1014/works on a 360 LA cast crank motor with external balance? I have the flywheel already from a previous build, and it came with a bolt on weight for external balance, or take the weight off for neutral balance. In their description it says that it works for both big and small blocks, and when I asked 440source they said it should work with the weight they provided, however, i have heard conflicting info since the balance weights of 440's and 360's are different...however, this link makes me think it should work since they list 440 cast 6 bolts and the 360LA cast crank flywheels as the same http://www.americanpowertrain.com/Mopar/transmissions/flywheel.htmlHas anybody tried this to know for sure? I really don't have the money to buy another flywheel right now, and didnt even think this would be an issue

I haven't used any of the flywheels mentioned, and MP is more and more a commercial deal than a gear head one so the info there is suspect.
As you have found out, the amount of imbalance is different. You can adjust the amount of imbalance one of two ways. More eight in the same spot, or the same weight in a different spot. Like a teeter totter, the farther away from center the weight is the more effect it has. It may be that these flywheels you mention have more than one spot to mount the weight?
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

well in looking at the picture i posted of the source flywheel, it does look like there are multiple bolt holes, but im not sure if they are just for the pressure plate or for the weight to be mounted in different spots. Id have to bolt up a pressure plate and see what I get

maybe it's a case of "good enough for factory production" since they didn't weigh and balance every engine anyway, and just put them all together as-is.

Can you post the link for the diagram page. I found the page that lists the different weights but could not find the diagram.

It has been a few years since I installed the flywheel. I just looked at their site, and did not find the diagram. it may have been in their paper catalog, or with the weight. Or maybe the A and B positions are on the flywheel. You will need to call and ask them. I remember it was a simple matter to install.

I used the 440 source flywheel on a 70 Cuda 440 6 Pak. I found that this flywheel appeared to be the same as one sold by McCleod. The difference is, that McCleod sells different weights for the different engines, and they also have a diagram in their site, that shows which pair of holes to put the weight in. So I bought the proper weight from Mccleod, and all is right with the world now ! Or, at least this six Pak doesn't shake !
This sounds ideal. I think I may call Mcleod and see if they can send me the weight I need and the part number for it
Im not going to go buy another flywheel from brewers if i already have this one...and for those who want to knock it as "cheap chinese junk" well, it balanced out when i checked it before (internal) and it looks to be a quality peice.

I see Brewers sells McCleod flywheels and balance weights. Just call them, the weight will be cheaper from them, and you will get information quicker .

Thanks for the info and pm
I will call them tommorow and see what I figure out. Hopefully that weight can mount in the same spot that the previous weight did as there are only two mounting points for weight on the back of my 440source wheel (just looked today) and they are right beside eachother. Hopefully I can figure this out...I will report back what I find

Two mounting spots is how the one I installed was. One mounting point is the " A " position, and the other " B " position. I just don't remember which is which,or if it is marked on the flywheel, or if it was on a sketch. I have dealt with Brewers on a few occasions. Top notch people !! I am sure they can get you straight !

Well I called Brewer's and Mcleod about this..
Brewer's didnt have much to say except negative things about the source flywheel and not really any info since they dont use it, but he did tell me they do have the weight i need
When I called Mcleod I spoke with Billy and he told me with the back of the flywheel facing me that the holes to the left are position "A" and for the smallblock weight, the other two holes are what he called position "C" (no B he said) and are for 383/400/440. He told me the weight I need is Mcleod #460016
So it looks like I will be ordering the weight I need from Brewers and going from there...Hopefully this all works out ...thanks for all the help everyone, it was mucho appreciated!
