It is finally time to put tires on my '65 Belvedere. I'm asking for tire selection help. I'm going to use the Cragar SS wheel that came with the car. The front wheels are 15x6 with a 4" backspace. The tires on the front now are 215/75R15. The rear wheels are 15x8 with a 4.5" backspace. The tires on the rear now are 275/60R15.

What tire sizes have you guys used on a '65 B-body and how did they fit?

The motor is a big torque 493, Should I also consider a "soft compound" rear tire? Some sort of DOT approved drag radial?

Please help.

AndyF has a '65 Coronet with Mustang Bullitt wheels (different offset, of course, because of his brake setup), but he's probably got some ideas on what would be good...

Try doing a search on his posts to see some pics...

Your wheel sizing, backspacing, and tire choices look to be perfect to me. A 70 series in front might give a little more agressive look, but that's symantics.

I have 235/55-17 tires up front on Mustang rims. The 235/55-17 tire is a good size for most any B-body or E-body car.

Our old car had M/T drag radials 275/60-15 on 15x8 steelies with 4" backspacing. Fronts were 15x4 Torque Thrusters, but we varied the height of the tire to dial in the light. Car ran high 11's with a mild 440 and hooked good.

225/70R-15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A in the front and 255/70R-15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A in the rear. This combination fits great on 15 x 5 Steel Wheels on the front and 15 x 8 Ramcharger Steel Wheels on the rear. Everything fits great with no rubbing anywhere.
