Did you tighten the cold lash .006 to .008 for head growth. If you try to do it hot you must warm before each set of rockers as aluminum cools fast. idle sounds good to me??

Yea the lash will grow as it warms up some say .006 some say .008 my Indy's it's .010 but your lash should be fine check it as things move around first run in and watch for lock nuts not tight enough allowing the lash to open up.
Yeah I've already re-checked the lash. seems right.

As long as the idle doesnt speed up any on warm up sounds about right, but as a motor warms up and usually gain a couple hundy. Sounds great out the exhaust! I think my vavle train is a little noisy but sounds like you have oner or two really putt'n out some clatter. I would check for contact on valve cover or pushrod through the head clearance and since you already checked lash and took that out of the question. Posssibly a loose piston clearance on forged pistons? Does the clatter get better after it warms up?
1973 Charger, former SE, former auto
I'm not trying to be difficult, it comes naturally....

might be pistons..not sure they are ross pistons. I checked the valve cover clearance and it looks good. I gets a tad quieter as it warms up. I also checked the pushrods and all seem clear and I don't have any "blueing" of the cups.

How longs the build been together. I cracked a piston once didnt know it except the motor clatter like a MOTHER on 1 cylinder. Dont think thats at all but just a story. Did you build it or someone else build your engine? Really could just be how your phone/camera picks up sound but if it gets better with warming up it probably a clearance/expansion of some type. Can you hear it in the cab?
Got it from an e-bay member fresh rebuild. Some parts are used...pistons and some of the rockers. It has maybe 20 minutes of run-time and 10 street miles on it. No when the hood is on and you are in the car you cannot hear it. Camera made it sound a tad louder than it really is. I have used a stethoscope on both sides, under intake, on header tubes and they all sound about the same thru the steth...drivers seem a tad louder by ear.
