So this is my first BIG cam I am Degreeing. LSM tells me to make the Intake center line 112.

So I did the whole, find true TDC. Get full lift on the intake, check .050 before, get .050 after. Take those two readings off the degree wheel and divide by two.

After working at it about 20 times I got it at 112. (keith Black Gear Drive) Checked it about 5 times and it is 112.

What I find really weird is that the INTAKE valve is only completly closed when the piston has 1.5inches left in its stroke (its is a 4 7/8 crank)

Is this right. In my head it should be pretty closed much once the pistons starts moving up the bore.

Is it getting all its compression in the last 1.5 inchs of its stroke? Could I have done anything wrong?

I also checked the Intake open dregree off the cam card and it starts to open at the right spot.

specs off cam card

Int lift 525
Int Dur 286

Ex Lift 520
Ex Dur 312

Intakes opens 27BTDC
Intake Closes 79ABDC

Exhaust opens 92 BBDC
Exhaust Closes 40ATDC

LCA116
overlap 67

I checked these values at .050. If I remember right that is what you are suppose to do.

Intakes opens 27BTDC
Intake Closes 79ABDC

Exhaust opens 92 BBDC
Exhaust Closes 40ATDC

those lift numbers are at the lobe, yes?

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

A 286-312-116 LCA in at 113 would yield IO 30 IC76 EC37 EO 95 at .050 lobe lift

That is pretty much what they came out to be.

my question is, is it right to have the intake valve finally closed when the piston only has another 1.5 inches on its compression stroke.

who's cam and number is it?? Scan of the card???
You say it's 4 and 7/8 stroke????
what am I missing!

so thats .525 lobe lift or .7875 lift with 1.5?
NOS cam??
your lash will help close the valve while lifter is lowing the last little bit. say .024 lash the valve will be fully closed with .016 lift left as it ramps down.

I show that you have it straight up if you have the
numbers right.... the piston should be at 2.09" at
72.214*... with a 116 LSA I sure hope its a turbo
engine.... I took a guess at your crank of 4.860

I'll try to give as much info as possible.

636ci
Stroke= 4.875
Bore= 4.560

Naturally Asperated
Mechanical Alchy injection

1.8 rockers
.024 hot lash

Here is the cam card

You should be fine then looks like it is in at 112.
what is the duration at .020 is that all they gave you?

Thats all they have given me.

I called and asked them this same question and they weren't very helpful at all. Usually I get great help from LSM. All they told me was to make sure the Intake center line is 112 when checking it.

You are right... When the crank is at 72* the piston is right at 2.05.

The intake valve is still open .007

So since all of this is from the lobe the valve when running hot will actually be closing .024" sooner because of the valve lash?

Why did you want to go to a 116 LSA for a N/A engine

Thats a question for LSM, TFS and Tom Helmphil. They all had big parts in this engine.

Intakes opens 27BTDC----112 ICL = 31BTDC
Intake Closes 79ABDC----112 ICL = 75ATDC

Exhaust opens 92 BBDC----- 96 BBDC
Exhaust Closes 40ATDC----- 36 ATDC

If installed at These numbers you are in straight up at a 116 ICL If you want it installed @ a 112 as Recommended to you. Your numbers need to be , "See Above text next to yours"
