I was driving home last Friday and my car just shut off. I coasted and had it towed home. I have just under 11 volts on one side of the ballast and just over 5 on the other side of the ballast as well as the coil. I checked the cap and rotor and they both look fine. I am starting to suspect the MP chrome box. I get no spark when I ground the disconnected lead to the distributor just a little fizzle. All of this is with the key in the run position. I also get no spark from the lead on the coil to ground turning the engine over with a remote button. Is there another way I can trouble shoot this this without replacing the box and seeing if it fires?

take off the coil neg pri wire(s) & key on, w a jumper ground the coil neg pri terminal to ground repeatedly like Morse Code & if that makes the coil secondary wire (dist end) held 1/4" from ground make sparks & if good the coil/ballast and their supporting wiring are good (though a coil can test good cold then act up w hot). then (key on) touch the male end of the dist 2 wire connector to ground (which I think you described) & see if that makes a sec coil wire spark & if not but it did on the 1st test that highly points to the ECU but do a quick check on the ECU related wiring (pull/reinstall the pentastar connector). If it sparks on both tests than that leaves the dist. visual check the pickup/gap & ohm it if you have a VOM. If the ECU is bad I'd have no prob w a $15 parts house Mopar type generic 4 pin replacement ECU

Got a new chrome box and resistor today. Made in the USA on the box and stamped right on the part. Hope this is it
