Don't see why not with enough time, effort and planning.
The big stuff I can think of off the top of my head are;
Width - the Hemi is wider than a small block, so this will require doghouse modifications and keeping an eye on airflow, since all radiator and engine cooling air flows through here. If you keep the stock computer and thermostat, things could get hot in a bad way. Modern engines run at over 200, the old engine ran at 160-190. The new wiring should be able to handle it, but I doubt the doghouse insulation will.
Length - The fan to the bellhousing should work, but the transmission on the 100s was a shorty. The driveshaft was also short.
Are you also planning on brakes?
What about a suspension upgrade?
If you are doing a full-on update, you could go with an IRS and solve the trans/driveshart issue, since the diff stays in one place.

I like the points RodStRace raised, but want to stress out this particular one:
WIDTH!!!
You have to make sure that if you increase the doghouse width, you will still have room for the seats. The seats are right on the doghouse. Be sure to measure this before you commit. There's no real room to move the seats outwards.

If it works, be sure to let us all know, the future is in the Gen III Hemis, but we want to know if they fit

Good luck,
Ran

"Hey mister, something's wrong with your car, it idles roughly" - number one comment I got in Israel when daily driving a 70 Barracuda with a lopey cam.

Currently working on - 1966 Dodge A100 van 318/auto
Finally - disc brakes on the front.
In the plans - rear disc brakes, B&M 250 blower

If a real hemi will fit a 5.7 should be easy. The guy that built this one now has a Gen3 in one now and it looks like it grew there.

I have thought about this swap too,I have a '67 A100.You can use the stock A100 transmission since it will bolt to the 5.7 Hemi.As far as motor mounts,I wonder if any of the available A or B/E Hemi swap mounts will work. The 5.7 is wider than an LA motor, but is it the valve cover or exhaust manifold that is the widest point? One plus is the 5.7 is lighter than an LA motor, more power in stock form is another.

Talked with some friends about this...
We haven't seen 3rd gen hemis cheap around here.
A computer and harness will be ~1500 or so. Add in the gas pedal for the throttle by wire.
don't forget the kickdown

I haven't mounted them yet to see where they end up. I just got an A body Cuda. I originally bought them for my A-100 truck to install the 5.7 Hemi. Due to limited space in the "coffin box" I couldn't install the motor. Thus a new car was in order.

There are a bunch of threads out there on these swaps. Some here, and others over the 'net. I'd suggest searching for them and having a notebook nearby. Plenty of info, but it changes daily and lots of different opinions and budgets too.

If you decide to go with a carburetor you can get an MSD ignition controller under $500.http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/products.php?browse=category&level0=NS43LzYuMSBNb2Rlcm4gSGVtaQ==&level1=SWduaXRpb24gJiBFbGVjdHJpY2Fs&partid=24796

Some think it's backwards to carb a late model engine and ditch the EFI.I think it's more of an easy performance upgrade to the oe powerplant,be it a /6,or LA V8.You gain CID in this case anyway),better flowing heads,a roller cam ,a stronger v8 block, lighter weight, etc.EFI isn't always needed, especially on a fair weather limited use vehicle. In another thread moparts member Zippy mentions the possibility of an affordable distributor ignition conversion becoming available.Perhaps another step backwards, but it has it's right place in the right vehicle.Something like the A100 or an old school hot rod would be right with a distributor ignition.I've seen 426 and even 392 Hemis in A100's,the 3rd gen has to fit somehow!

On the clearance issue. IIRC the seat does need the room but the wall of the doghouse flares outward below seat level and could possibly be widened at that point. I had one of the A100s for 20 years and in the summer that doghouse would get hot enough to bubble the skin on your leg, that was with a slanty in it. Sounds like a neat project though.Love the A100s

Thanks for some of the great links! I saved some to do research for my project in the future.

I am hoping to do this swap on my 65 a100 pickup as well. Reading the one link that you attached a 5.7 Hemi valve cover to power steering pump on drivers side is 26".

Seems like that should we well within the width of the current engine compartment. I am worried about the heat issue the truck cabin would be on fire at 200 degrees coming off that motor. Do you think you could spray the engine cover and compartment with lizard skin and keep the cab cool?

Craig
