I was recently told that 1969 GTX's used some kind of gasket material behind the diecast trunk decor panel. I know the speednuts were sealed, but does anyone know if there was another gasket & what it might have been made of? Also, does anyone know a source for the speednuts, which were a different design than used elsewhere on the car?

The studs which got through the trunk lid had gaskets on each stud. That is the way the NOS panel was I just installed.

Now that you mention it, mine had little fiber washers too. The former Chrysler employee I recently talked to insinuated it was something larger, but I guess with the stud gaskets, there wouldn't have been any reason for a larger gasket, unless it was just to protect the paint. Thanks for jogging my memory.

I don't remember any gasket on my 69 GTX back then. I removed the one of my preserved 69 GTX and no gasket. Would a gasket not retain water in that area and hasten rusting?
