I have my 71 cuda geting closer to paint, it is completly disasembled. I Cloned a $200.00 Parts car into a cuda in 1982, in other words modifacations are Ok with me. I have mocked up the 05 truck hemi and t56 6speed, And the Shifter is in the correct place. I plan to have the car appear factory with the hood closed, yet be very drivable. Thus Being in the South I really want a Good well functioning A/C system. At the age of 17 I put a Factory A/C box and Dash in the car, so I have a modification already. THE QUESTION IS Will the 05 Hemi Compresor work well with the Factory A/C Evaporator and Condenser, Or would I be better served to get one of the after market Evaporator Boxes to go under the Dash? I do Like the Factory controls and I believe those would not be able to be used. I have seen a fellow member put a late model A/C box and Dash out of a 05 or so Charger. I will be keeping the original Dash, but is the a junkyard fix for this Ride? I really hope to drive this car alot so function is most inportant. Thanks

There's no reason you can't use the 05 compressor and the stock AC box inside and use all the stock controls.

I have both my cars setup that way with all new under the hood and all stock inside the car and works good.

The Guys at Classic auto air In Tampa say that there will be night and Day difference in the performance of there after market under dash box versis the Factory Box. Has any body used the after market box? Is it like A/C on a new car?

I cannot speak for the ebody conversion piece.
And the factory box is only from memory on a b-body.
I have to say the blower motor on the new box does not move as much air as the factory box.
I also feel the evaporator is much larger in the old box then the new.

IF I had an old box to redo, I would probably go that route rather than the new one if a/c performance was my main concern.

The new one's are much cleaner, and easier to install, but pound for pound, I think the original had better out put.

It works, so don't get me wrong, but I remember my original a/c being much better.

The guys at Classic Auto Air want to sell there box, I'm sure. If you want to hack up your classic car interior, go ahead.

I know from real world experience, with 2 cars. One is triple black, the AC works great with a stock box. My gold car will freeze you out and wind up running it on low. Body color makes a huge difference.

With R-134, how much air you can move thru the condenser is more important than the interior heater/AC box. imo

A good radiator fan shroud is the ticket for R-134. Not so you don't overheat, so you get good air flow thru the condenser.

I didn't have to ask anyone because I know from installing and using them.

I'm switching my car over from OEM parts converted to 134a to a sanden setup from http://bouchillonperformance.com/, from what I researched there and other places, I agree, the condenser is the more important part.
