we've got two 2005 5.7's, one in a durango, the other in a ram. Both vehicles approx. 100,000 mi. Is there ever a time to change to thicker oil or should I continue to use the 5-20 as specified ? Thanks

I ran 5W-30 Mobile 1 in an '06 Durango I just traded in today. 165K and runs and drives great. Oil consumption same as new - 1 quart during the oil change interval. I just wanted the extra protection if/when it was run hard and hot. It didn't seem to bother the MDS either. 20W just seemed too light to me.

It it was mine, I'd go ahead and switch to the 5W30.

No reason to change. Keep on rolling. These motors were designed to last 200,000 or more. Keep up with regular maintenance and oil changes and you will be fine.
