I am in the plannin stages of the build on my 63 Polara 500. I am using a 600 plus HP 500 stroker and am thinking of going with an aftermarket air condition system and serpentine pully system.

any suggestions on if its worth it or not and who makes a decent one?

Dave

Bouchillon Performance has an aftermarket ac compressor kit that supposedly uses less HP than stock, mounts in the stock location, and only uses one pully. I've never used it, maybe someone that has can chime in. Overall, it looks like a good setup, their kit includes all parts, fittings and whatnot to set it up.

March Performance makes a number of kits for the BB Mopar with or without A/C or power steering. I have one of their systems with power steering and it is nice stuff but does require some adjusting to get it all to fit. http://www.marchperf.com/gallery_chry.html

SD Concepts also makes a less showy piece than March's but I don't know much about this one.

I'm running a 496 lowdeck with AC, PS and belts. It idles at 850-900 and tops out around 6000 RPM. The compressor and compressor mount are from Bouchillon. I'm running a 4 groove 6.25" March crank pulley. The crank pulley is 1" smaller than the stock 7.25" which keeps accessory speeds near stock with my faster idling faster running engine. Other pulleys and brackets are stock or stock style re-pops from Bouchillon. The water pump is a high volume MP unit with anti-cavitation plate. The pump housing is an aluminum MP unit with drivers side lower radiator hose. With a stock style fan pulley and the 6.25" crank pulley the WP and thermal clutch fan are about 7% overdriven which has worked great. Overall its a good setup. Just run a high quality belt for the power steering - Gates or NAPA premium - and adjust correctly to prevent squeals on hard acceleration.

The bracket setup and pulley alignment is based on the late 60's early 70's BB setup with drivers side WP outlet. You have probably heard this, but if you go with a factory based setup, stick with the same "generation". If you try to mix and match from different years/generations pulley alignment and lower radiator hose routing gets to be a mess.

Attached is the best pic I have. It kinda features the alternator but gives an idea on the rest. Note the alternator is a later model "big frame" Chrysler from the '78 Cordoba core engine. I started with a 75 amp standard style square back Chrysler alternator and re-pop early 70's style bracket for AC cars. The output was inadequate with EFI so I switched to the "big frame" alternor.
For cost, I'd check Summit for the March 6.25" 4 groove pulley and Bouchillon for the rest. Between those two you can get all of it.

Also If you need a repop alternator bracket in good condition, PM me.
