What is the largest slick you can put on a early b-body with out moving the springs into the frame rail?

Danny,

What gives? I though you where going with the old tried and true 6" bias ply.

By the way I a found a little something in the 63 that may get me much closer to Mr Dudeks Hemi!

I don't think the Firebird will be an issue this year? As long as it stay's together it should improve ALOT!

Not sure how you guys are fitting that big tire in those cars I just upgraded slicks for my 64 Dodge and the dimensions are fresh in my mind. Stock leaf spring locations and the wheel wells are stock. With 30x9 Hoosiers with a 8 inch rim, I have 7/16 to 1/2 inch clearance to the leaf spring and 1/2 inch to the outside quarter panel.

I have 15X10 Cragar SuperTricks with 28X10 slicks and have all kinds of clearance. From what I remember the back spacing is 3 1/2"X6 1/2".
I had welded up 15X10 steel wheels on an old max wedge car years ago(70's) to get the right spacing.
I don't know what else to say..

These are Hoosier QTP 29 x 11.5 x 15 and they fit with about 1/4" on the inside and outside. The tread is just over 10" as the 11.5 is the width. They would be fine for race only but they rub to much on turns for street driving. Ron

So I went to the Hoosier radial slick thats 30 x 9 x 15 with a 9" tread you see in this pic. They fit with room to spare and dont rub on turns as I drive them on the street all the time. The 29 x 11.5's would rub so much on turns that smoke would come from the rear wheelwell when making a long turn like a highway ramp. You can tell they are the 29 x 11.5's in my sig pic also which are not on the car anymore. Ron

Hoosier QTP 29x11.5 DOT slicks on 8" rim fit perfect on my 65 Belv. Quarters were slightly modded (rolled lip) but had no effect anyways, room to spare on outside but have 7/16-1/2" to springs. Never any rubbing. Car sits low also, all tire stuffed in there. Looks great, need new pics to show.. All about the rim backspacing also.
