Just got done running in a 505 for a buddy of mine. one minor problem the water pump bolts had a little leak. bigger problem is it ran pretty hot right away. Got up over 200 pretty fast. timing was dead on and carb was my trusty 3310 that ive used on almost every motor that ive ever run. motor is a muscle motor 505 kit with stealth heads and comp xe 519 lift hydraulic cam installed at 106 per the card. question is the aluminum housing and pump used the paddle type impeller and i have a scroll type pump also, is one any better than the other? i have the pump off now to reseal the bolts and am wondering which pump style to reinstall. any help appreciated.

Was it running hot on the dyno or in the car? There are a lot of things that could make it run hot besides the water pump... radiator, shroud, pulley ratios, fan ect.

On the pump itself, there are lots of brands and designs. MOPAR had several variations on the vane type. I've had good results with a MP high volume pump in an Ed headed 496. It has vanes and an anti-cavitation plate. My pulley setup overdrives it about 6%. Along with a 26" aluminum radiator, thermal fan and shroud it keeps the engine cool. I believe others have had good results with the scroll type from certain vendors.

Check the port openings on the WP housing (compare them to a stock iron one & see if your good there). I have a scroll vane one also (ain't used it yet) & there was some feedback about it but dont remem if good or bad. Got hot during the cam breakin? or afterwards driving it? Rad known good flow and proper supporting items (fan/shroud/fan placement/no stat for breakin) and a shop fan in front of rad for breakin

I was running it on my run-in stand. have run a bone stock motor on this stand and it barely makes 180. the radiator is from a turbo daytona with factory electric fan and shroud. even with my race motors it takes a while with the fan off to get to 200. it never overheated just semmed to get to 200 quickly. keep it coming. i checked the pump housing openings and they are bigger than the one for the race car that i haven,t had time to install while building this one.
