I'm looking to redo my rear end in my 1971 Roadrunner. It has 3.55 gears right now, but I'm wanting to swap it for a 2.76 or a 2.94 gear. I was wondering what gaskets would I need to replace and if I should replace the bearings as well. I'm only 19 years old and yall's help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, DJ

I would just leave the 3.55s in, unless you were looking to improve MPGs. If I were doing a gear swap (Actually I am right now!), I would replace all the gaskets and bearings for peace of mind. Right now I'm debating on the axle shaft bearings, seeing as I don't have the special tool the service manual says to use.

But really, you'll need to make sure you get your pinion depth, pinion bearing preload, ring gear run out and your ring & pinion backlash set to specs, then you're golden.

if it's an 8 3/4 rear, you should have no problem coming up with a 2.76 geared chunk for cheap.
