Here's what I did. Got a Quick fuel air bell 11 inch diameter, added a K&N Extreme top 9 inch diameter. Better filtering than just screen.Fit under a 3 inch tall hood scoop. Both available at Jegs.
AWESOME... Thats thinking outside the box

Yes and it is no different from with it on to without. Used it for 4 years now when I'm not running the dual 4 bbl STR intake.
I like what you did. You say there was NO difference in ET / MPH between the basic carb bell and when the K&N X-stream lid was added? What sort of times is that car running? And do you have that setup sealed to a hood scoop?

Just buy a short stack and wrap the screen around to the back and use JB Weld to glue it in place... you can glue a grommet in the center for the hold down

There was no difference from running with a no filter and no air bell to putting what you see in the pic. Car runs between 10.27 to 10.31 at 132 to 132.50 in spring and/or autumn condition. It is not sealed to the hood scoop.

Cool... I wasn't able to find any flow data specific to the Xtream lids by themselves and was wondering if running only the lid like you show would cause a restriction. It must work OK based on your results.
