Well it makes a difference... some things draw HEAVY
amps(some fans draw as much as 40 amps)... will
you be using relays on the stuff

Guage will vary with a variable of things. Length, componets, relays, heat of the compartment.

Things like gauge lights and ignition source indicater wires can use 20 gauge. Water pumps, Fans and fuel pumps, may need 10 gauge or better depending length from power source.

But in most cases 12 gauge is plenty. Instead of having heavy gauge wiring running around everywhere I would use relays for remote locations. If you have a high draw short length wired componet use a HD switch with a matching wire gauge.

Dont rely or trust your typical/elcheapo 20 amp switchs that you might get at your local auto retail shops. They by far dont handle the amps they are advertised at.

at the moment just looking at the fuel pumps to the switch panel as it being a race car batt's in the trunk, pumps in the rear, there is no motor so the up frt wiring has to wait.btw using arc panel if that helps

Check out Auto Rod Controls on the web..

But here is a video.. They use a relay block/panel..

Thats definatly a situation where you want to use a relay. Id put the relay in the trunk.

That way the pumps power feed will be a very short distance. Batt to pump through the relay.

VS sending power to the front first and then back to the back with a even larger wire gauge preferred or needed.

In this case you can energize the relay two ways.

You can send 12 volts to it from your arc switched panel. Or you can ground it from the front or through the arc panel if it has that capability.

To keep it simple I wouldnt use anything less then 12 gauge to feed the pump. To engergize the Relay from front to back. You could use 20 gauge or higher. A relay takes Miliamps to energize.

But instead of buying a a bunch of different gauge wireing sizes. 12 and 16 gauge spools should cover you. But, also take into consideration wire color for easier polarity identification.

do yourself a favor and get a kit from painless wiring or one of the other companies. and find somebody with wiring experience to help or do the job.anyoone can string a bunch of wires but there are things that need to be done to make it safe and work properly. if you have to ask these questions it makes me wonder if you know these things. not being rude just saying. good luck

Is your battery in the trunk? Are you going to run an alternator?
If so how many amps will it be sending 15' or so to the batt.?
I think I use a 4 ga. wire for my alt. to batt. in trunk. 100 amps could melt a 10 ga. wire 15' long.
There are sites or books that tell you what gauge wire for how many amps going what length.

YES

Here is a chart to give you a better idea on what wires to use where. The "length" referred to is a total of both the hot and ground wires to the item.

I just rewired my 4th car. Put in the ARC 8000R touch panel.
It comes with a relay board that plugs in to the switch panel.
Absolutely love it.

Besides the heavy current users (starter, battery, etc.) I run everything in 14 gauge mtw wire.

Why does divorce cost so much? Because it is worth it!!!!!

I'm installing an ARC 8000D panel right now and it couldn't be any easier.
