I recently heard that AAR fenders are wider than regular Cuda fenders. THe person that told me said it was due to the larger tires, they weren't sure whether it was wider side to side or if it had to do with the wheel opening. I has been a long time since I researched AAR specifics, but I cant remember ever hearing that or anything like that before. DOes anyone have any info on this or even any myth related to this that might exist.
Thanks in advance, Kevin

The wheel opening is the same. There have been alot of discussions if the lips were rolled in.
The tire size in the from were E60-15 which are smaller than the Hemi tire size.

no no, Not Wheel size, Tire size. Lots of cars came with 15 inch wheels and didn't get special fenders. Hemi cars had F-60 Tires. Here's a pic of a Hemi fender. The part # is listed as a 70-71 Challenger with F-60/15 tire. One of the guys from creative industries that did the fender modifications on the early cars was here on moparts talking about this recently. Tav

Not to discount your fender picture here but that appears to be on the extreme side of a regular rolled fender.

I see what you're saying. I think it's the angle of the photo, and because you can't see the bottom of the fender for reference in that pic. Here's another pic of the same fender.
Tav
wow, now that looks totally different than the first photo.

Interesting, I will check my fenders when I get home, but I am sure I would have noticed that by now.

That does not appear to be a factory installed fender, at least not to me.
Hi Barry, always good to hear from you. It's not my fender, It belongs to another moparts member, and I only have these two pictures of it, so I'm unable to verify its authenticity. It's deffinately a used Challenger fender, but beyond that . It's supposed to be representative of the later hemi fenders as indicated by the special inner fender brace, rolled wheel lip, and part #. It took awhile for the factory to come up with these special fenders, but they're vendor supplied and should all look pretty much the same. The early hemi fenders were done by hand on the car at creative industries, so they will exhibit variations. The creative industries hemi fenders have the inner brace removed because it was attached to the wheel lip they were trying to roll.
I'm curious what makes you suspect that it may not be a factory installed fender? Is it the lack of undercoating? You could be right, this might be a replacement hemi fender purchased over the counter.

The later Hemi fenders were stamped, not rolled at the stamping plant. There were no replacement Hemi fenders until the stamped fender was ready about March-April of 70 as I have stated before.Creative never did extra fenders for service.
Two troubling issues with the fender pictured 1. They bent the fender in the wrong place. 2. Should not have a strap.

I agree with that completely, and never meant to imply otherwise. After Barry's comment, I was thinking that it was perhaps one of these service fenders. It definately isn't a Creative Industries fender, as those were modified standard fenders and wouldn't have the hemi fender specific part # on it.

So the later Hemi fenders did not have a rolled wheel lip? Was their wheel lip stamped flat (folded over similar to the creative fenders), or do they not have a wheel lip at all?

So you're saying that the later hemi fenders also didn't have that inner fender brace?
Thank You all for bringing this to my attention Logan426, Barry, & Mike S. That's enough to convince me. It sounds like that fender I posted pics of is a fake. I'm not a hemi fender expert, I just pay attention when people like Mike S talk. He knows way more about hemi fenders than anyone I can think of. Those two pictures of that fender came from a long ago moparts thread about hemi fenders. No one in that thread, or the other recent thread I posted them in indicated any suspicion that the fender was a fake. I've seen several pictures of the creative industries fenders, but these are the only pictures I've seen claiming to be the later hemi fender. If someone has a pic of the later hemi fender, would they please post it so that I can see the differences? If those pics I posted above are a faked fender, I'll delete the files so that the misinformation doesn't spread.

Note to the original poster: This unfortunate fender photo incedent doesn't change what has already been said about AAR fenders, and which cars should have received Hemi fenders.

I would not call it a fake, it is obviously a fender. It just does not appear to be a factory installed fender. Lack of sound deadener, the part number for the NOS system & the cars were painted with the valance on, then it was removed & re-installed after the bumpers were put on. So, it looks like a used replacement fender to me. Rolling them with baseball bats was also a common owner trick back then for fat aftermarket tires. I have still not seen any proof of rolled fenders from the factory. If someone has some, I am sure that we would all love to see it? Barry

Let me be clear about this only the Challengers had the brace and had it removed. As were the wheel lip mouldings. No brace on a Hemi Cuda
The reason as stated for modifying the fenders was correct.Tire size nothing else.
The stamped fenders (cars with a second tag stating Hemi fender) were folded back but also had a bit of the material removed.(the area where the brace joined the fender was removed IIRC).The overall area that was modified was slightly smaller than the hand modified fenders. The overall look is more squarish than the Creative mods.
There is a part number that I have yet to receive that was issued for the stamped fenders.(still trying to get it)
So far I have not been able to pinpoint the production dates on the Hemi E-bodies.It would be a great help to see how many cars were built after the stamped fender was ready.
I took a second look at the first fender picture the area modified is at least 3 times longer than the correct mods.

The aar cuda I'm working on now doesn't have any rolling in the lip. One was a factory replacement fender, the other was the original to the car.
