where are you going to mount it? I mounted mine in the bed at the back on top of 4 pistons so I didnt have to cut the floor up,just poped 2 holes with the hole saw for the fuel lines it gravity feeds down to my filter and pump hanging on the frame rail in the back I run -8 from cell to filter/pump to the regulator up on the firewall,then -6 line to carb and for a return to tank if you mount it higher than the pump and lower than the carb you should be good and have no problem with it I have seen those long spun alum takes mounted to the bulkhead of the bed up by the cab and gravity feed the mech pump,looks good this way also,stays out of the way of hauling stuff in the bed too I dodnt trust a BB fuel pump since I had one rupture and dump gas right into the oil pan and wipe a good running 440 out with gas in the oil...but thats me and why I went to a elect fuel pump

above pump and below carb base gasket we are talking about a 72 truck correct? what trunk is on a truck? is it a in-cab tank? yes I mounted mine up off the floor and just used a hole saw for a small hole to run the lines thru like this

No, not a truck. A 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus. ('72 SSP). Sort of like a 71-72 Roadrunner (except nowhere NEAR the performance).
And thanks for the info, and the pictures...I had wondered what you meant when you said "pistons".
Hey, if any racers are still reading, here's another question...if you use the fuel cell AND you use a fuel pump, do you have to place your battery in the trunk? Also, are there any requirements on where you put the fuel pump? I've seen pics where some are in the trunk, some are mounted under the trunk, some are even in the engine compartment.
If you don't have the battery in the trunk, can you still have the fuel pump in the trunk? What sort of wiring does it require?

You can mount the pump anywhere convenien. No the battery dose not need to go in the trunk. There are many different ways to wire it . Use a relay and a switch , some guys use a switch off the oil pressure sender to kill the relay if there is no oil pressure .

oh!! I need that forrest gump smiley still the same in the truck of a car though,rather pop a small round hole that wont takle much to weld back up later I grabed a couple plastic plugs off some truck doors to go in the hols the run the hose thru it and I can just plug the hole if I dont use it depends on you elect pump,they pump fuel not sux it so it needs to be close to the cell/tank I used a big filter with the pump nippled right to it then hung them on the frame rail will wire it like they said with oil pressure switch and relays/switch the pistons are cool but anything to hold it up and bolt it down
