I have acquired a steering column set for auto on the floor/4 speed. I have also acquired another steering column (was told it was from a 71). I figured it was easier and faster to do a rebuild and conversion on a column already out of the car(my car is a 73 duster with power steering). Also have a factory manual and have everything disassembled ready to put back together.
I've got some questions or observation before I begin reassembly:
1. the steering column shaft measures 371/2 inches. Is this a power steering unit setup?
2.There is a tube with the arm for the column shift. what do you do with this, since I am converting to auto on floor?
3.My column I'm converting has a large spring clip that holds a white nylon spacer in place. There is no lower steering column bearing with 2 bolt holds like what I've seen in manual or catalogs.Should there be some sort of lower bearing to help hold the steering shaft stable?
Hopefully I don't have a column that won't work on my car.
thanks for any input, pictures or advice.
