I am going to look at a 2004 Ram 3500 Dually with a Hemi. I have a 8' pickup camper (2000 lb) that we stay in and pull a open trailer but am planning on getting a enclosed trailer. Do the Hemi's have decent tow power? Diesels are to exspensive to buy and maintain and they dont start good in these minnesota -30F winters. The track is 100 miles one way from my house so I normally arent going to far but I have a 2003 Ford f-250 7.3 diesel short box with air bags and just doesnt seem like enough truck for this setup.

Low teens would be more then awsome for milage. The 8' camper in our 6 1/2 ft short box just makes it hard to hook trailers on and all that wait hanging out the back is just to much.

my 04 1500 got 12-13 mpg pulling Elvis from south FL to Cordova, Il on a 22 hr trip. power was fine, the truck was a handful though pulling a 28 footer

Your Powerstroke makes more torque than the Hemi will. I think I would keep what you got and make some changes more to your liking.

I will still have the Ford. I have 5000 lb air bags in it, Edge programmer and 10 ply tires. It sways and doesnt seem to have any weight on the front tires.

I'm sure with the camper you would need frame extensions with a EQ hitch... the hemi might not lie all the frontage and the weight of the camper

Put a EQ hitch on it to lift the rear of the truck back up to the normal height

I've got an '03 Ram long bed DRW. We carry an 11ft camper in the 8ft bed while towing an 18ft open trailer. This is the hitch I've used for the past 8 years without any problems. The only towing system designed specifically for truck campers! If you have trouble towing with your truck camper because it extends past the end of the truck bed, this is the solution! Patented extended hitch system is engineered for towing all types of trailers, boat or personal watercraft. Dual receiver with compression tube. Extension towing capacity up to 12,000 lbs. Designed for campers up to 12'. Two piece system. Order hitch to fit the year, make and model of your truck. Then, select extension by length and carrying capacity needed. http://www.adventurerv.net/torklift-superhitch-p-5102.html

I currently have the 06 Ram 2500 4x4 hemi, use it as a tow vehicle and daily driver/work truck.. The truck itself weighs in at just over 7000 lbs empty.. With work stuff, its easily close to 8000... Towing the Duster in a 24' enclosed trailer, I have easily towed over 10,000 miles in these short 4+ years of ownership.. The power of the hemi while towing can easily pass any slower vehicle and on most hills, we can keep a steady 55 mph while on cruise control.. For the large mountain grades, you do have to crank up the motor to keep up speed, but I dont think I have ever slowed to less that 45 mph on the steepest grades.. Gas mileage is dissapointing.. empty on the freeway, it gets 13-14 mpg.. around town loaded with work stuff, its a solid 10 mpg.. towing on flat land we can squeak out low 12's, but towing up n down the mountains we're lucky to get 8!! All I can say is I wish I had a Cummins.. but I dont, so would I buy another Ram hemi?? heck yeah..

Had a 04 4x4 with Hemi, pulling 26 foot enclosed on flat Mich. roads, 8-10 is the max I ever got. Low teens is dreaming.
I agree. 03 hemi with 24 foot enclosed about 10 if you baby it. closer to 8-9 mpg.

That's a nice looking duallie, congrats on the new aquisition I haven't towed with my 3/4 ton ('03 longbed hemi), don't have a trailer yet...am not expecting good fuel economy, it just ain't gonna happen (and that isn't why I got it).

It has 4.10's and I got a superchips programmer for it. Obviously putting some exhaust on it. Thinking about headers with magnaflows. I didnt buy it for milage but empty on my way home @70+ mph on the four lane it got 13-14 av. mpg
