Could someone tell me what the size of the main line bore on a 440 block is supposed to be? Not the size of the bearings, but the actual block itself after the finish line hone is done? Thanks a lot.

As per clevite catalog 2.9425 to 2.943 are correct.

Thanks a lot!! Thats exactly what I wanted to know. 1 more question, what would be the maximum amount out of round that would be acceptable for a performance build?

I just went through this. manufacture's other than Chrysler allow for .001" tolerance for line bore with similar sized mains. Mine was sized to to 2.9425" dead on. My crank is aprox .0008" under minimum spec. Clearances were still less than .0023". I switched to Federal Mogul 3/4 groove and got .0027"-.0028". Just a heads up that min line bore spec may not allow enough clearance with common bearings. All clearances were measured with Sunnen dial bore gauge and mike.

Install the mains you want to use and torque them down to the specs your going to use and then check them for out of round, if not acceptable look at the main caps then If it ain't broke, don't fix it
