in the last 50 years I have tried everything from fishing to restoring cars and everything in between.Nothing else has held my interest. Great people, good times and the friendship of some very special people. Plus it's cheaper, safer and better for your health than whiskey and wild women
building some neat cars and driving what you build is a strong point.
on the whisky and wimmen part...lol but Fred i was sure you handled that part fine, too..
There is just nothing quite like this sport..and I've said this before..it lets all ages have fun and enjoy the comraderie...virtually anybody can enter a car, truck, or bike and have a great time. It's America at its best!

I do it because I want to leave this world broke! And the way it looks its working out. Lol. I love competition. Especially when you are considered the underdod because I am a lonely Mopar in a Chebby and Ford world.

Mainly I enjoy the building... if you notice I dont own the cookie cutter stuff so its a challenge to me. I enjoy the people at the track because we usually speak the same language. Yeah sure I like the speed and winning thing also... now that I dont drive its up to me to get the car right so it will turn on the win light... which can be a challenge at times... its all fun to me

Getting a new driver to push the pedal all the way down can be hard to diagnose.....

Doug has found out that if he does what I say(have the stuff set to) and he gets a good light we can get the job done.... we ran the revs a little high past the shift light and ran quicker one time... I asked ... did you shift at the light... he said he went a few hundred high... I said thats why we ran quicker... he's doing pretty good

My reasons have evolved as my race program has evolved, that said there are many reasons.
When I was a tnt'er it was all about new bests, learning how to tune the car, etc. Had little to do with driving. Speed rush. When you actually start racing you learn early on the losing SUCKS, so you work on your driving and racing strategy. Competitive nature. When you improve it is about turning on win lights and making final rounds. Winning some money and getting some ink is just a bonus. I won't ever go to a race that I don't think I can win... I do enjoy the comraderie of hanging out with the guys.
I like this one above!! For me its all the above and more I love the mechanical end of it engine ,trans, chassis work, painting I hang out out my shop lots I love the getting ready part mental & physical I love racing something different I love the competition I love trying to constantly improve (go faster ,cut better lights, be more consistant) Above all else its the people and friendships I've made through the years. Two weeks ago Joe Smith former stk & s/s nhra world champ came and hung out with us (his younger brother towed my trailer and car to Dallas Raceway when my truck went down)This made foranother great experience. I could go on and on but Drag Racing is my sanity saver!
