Looking to buy a new set of slicks for my car. Will either be buying 28x9 or 30x9's in a bias ply. What brand have you guys had good luck with? My car is 3300lbs (race ready) and I run a 440 (dynoed 560hp) with auto trans and 4.30 gears. Thanks in advance!

M/T's have always worked well for us and we'll be using them on my new " stick" car.

I used to run Mickey Thompson slicks and drag radials on various cars I have had,and switched to Hoosiers.I like the Hoosiers better, they seem to last longer mostly due to not needing as big of a burnout. And as a bonus, every Hoosier I have ran has been lighter by a noticable amount.

I always run the Phoenix slicks, although a 10.5" tread. But there was a thread on YB awhile back that was several pages long and there was an overwhelming number that said the Hoosiers worked better on their small tire cars. If I keep my Dart I will be trying Hoosiers this year. The Phoenix tires work but they seem to be double the weight of a M/T when I lifted them at the same time.

These are Hoosier 30 x 9's but they are radials. I went with them because I wanted a 30 x 9 drag radial to run on the street but no one makes a 30 x 9 street legal drag radial. I wanted this size because it fits great in my stock wheelwells and does not rub at all on hard turns. So I decided to try the radial slick. They hook fine on my 63 and since I have radials up front they handle great. I have been driving on the street with this set the past 2 summers and racing with them but I only race 2 or 3 times a year. They hold up great and work good for me. I dont have to worry about tickets because cars with Historic and Street Rod tags dont have to be inspected in Md. And I am Md state inspector. But I do like these Hoosier 30 x 9's as they have lasted alot longer then I thought they would. And until someone makes a street legal 30 x 9 drag radial I will run these. Ron

I'm looking at going from a 30" down to 28". I currently have M/T ET Drag Radials, and want to stay with the tubeless radial slick. Any opinions here as to what I should be looking at?

I've been running the Hoosier 30"x9" lightweight drag slicks for years and have been very happy with them. Radial slicks are faster, but they are more sensitive to track conditions so they will slip/spin a bit easier if the track isn't in the best shape. I usually race at IHRA nationals and divisionals where prep tends to be better than average. Local track prep can vary from track to track. I've tried to set my car up to work as well as possible with the radial slicks. But bias ply tend to be more consistent under average conditions. I just don't like the idea of swapping bias to radial if I need to pick up some ET for heads-up runs, qualifying, etc. because a radial slick can also quicken reaction times a bit. So I stay with the radials for overall consistency and predictability.

Radial slicks tend to like more air pressure than their bias ply counterparts. It also helps to run a wide rim to allow more pressure & stiffer sidewalls. This helps maintain a fuller footprint with the higher pressures, a stiffer sidewall for longer slick life and less distortion that can migrate into the contact area. I use a 10" rim with my 9" tires. I run 21 lbs in my particular combo but have heard of other Stockers running anywhere from 14 to 26+ lbs! Lots of variables there and you just have to experiment to see what your set-up likes.

Radial tires have crossed my mind. I know they can be faster if track conditions are there. You just hear horror stories that they either hook or they don't (no in between). Is that true? I still have a set of bias ply 28x9 Hoosiers (mounted ready to go) I am keeping around until I figure out what my new combo wants. Maybe I should step outside my comfort zone and try the radials

With all conditions the same, my car with me in it weighing 3200 lbs, 29 / 9 rear tire, couldnt get down there with the M/T tires. Put a set of Hoosiers on it, same size and bias ply, no problems at all. Both set were new. We tried running the air pressure up and down on the M/Ts with no luck. They would even break loose half track on us. Hoosiers are the tire for us on this car. One of our other cars weighing in a few hundred pounds less with a wider tire does ok with the M/Ts tho.
