my 73 roadrunner came with a 318. it now has a 68 440. it has spool mounts but i think they used the 318 mounts. the pass side sits about a inch and a half lower than the drivers side. from the bottom you can really tell the tranny is tilted bad to the pass side. is it possible that this is the problem?

Certainly could be. I recently learned that all V8 spool mounts are NOT the same. Check with a NAPA store for the mounts. They may even be able to produce a picture, or what the heck, log on to Rock autos site. You should be able to see the difference.
Not to top your story, But awhile back I was searching for a spare V8 k frame for my stable of A body projects when I spotted a 74 Dart with a V8 at a pick n pull yard. The motor sat sorta cocked to one side. Upon closer inspection it was sitting in a slant K frame with wierdly cobbled mounts held in with ONE bolt on each side!

The spool mount should be the same but the bracket that holds the mount to the engine is different BB & SB.

Also in 73 and later cars the BB-K-frame is different than the small block K-frame.

Make sure they didn't use the Small Block mounts on the Big Block ears. I dodn't think it would fit but with enough washers and bolts, some people can cobble anything togehter.

Buy the correct spool mounts from Schumacher and correct the issue.

That's what I run. The correct conversion mounts from engine-swaps.com locates the engine properly instead of a cobbled setup. Beware, you do have to pull the engine to change the mounts and do a bit of grinding and drilling on the drivers side engine mount perch on the k-frame.
