long story short is I feel like an idiot after reading numerous articles and then going out to pull my UCA bushings (69 B-body) as I thought it would be simple. Pictures of replacement bushings on line appear to be just rubber units (no steel sleeves, etc..), but mine have brass sleeves and ends around the UCA bushing. Are these brass colored parts replaced/reused removed/left in place? where do the replacement bushings start/end?

Figure knowing this answer may help me diagnose why my homemade jackscrew has been unsuccessful to date in getting these out.

looking at it I thought maybe you cut the inside washer face off the insert and press out the rubber bushing leaving the outer sleeve in place? however, this would mean replacing the inner sleeve and I have not seen these for sale anywhere and as said the bushing pictures online do not illustrate that the purchased bushing contains anything else but the rubber insert itself.

Thanks for the education

The ones I've done I pressed the complete bushing out. It can be done using a bench vise and different combinations of sockets. I think with pollygraphite type you may leave the sleeve in, but that may be the LCA.

You need to replace them shell and all. The rubber part of the bushing is compressed in the shell. If they are rusty I'd clean them as best you can with sandblasting, sand paper, wire brush, etc. before trying to press them out. I've also had to cut them out by essentially disassembling them and splitting the outer shell with a sawzall or hacksaw.

Agree new rubber bushings are complete with outer shell. I believe the FSM says press out the old rubber and use a chisel to cut out the inner shell. A hacksaw or sawsall should work as well.

One trick I have heard of to get the shell out is to weld a heavy washer to the ID of the shell then simply press out the shell.
