Is there any chance that a 72 Runner came with the Satellite Sebring Plus body moulding. The moulding starts at the front of the fender on the body line, follows above the wheel openings and all the way to the rear. The paint below the moulding is silver. The upper door panels also appear to be SSP style. The dash is black and the rest of the interior is Petty blue like the paint on the exterior. It also has a black half vinyl top. The dash tag and fender tag start with RM23 but I have a feeling someone swapped them to this car.I haven't been able to get the rest of the numbers from the fender tag yet.The car is for sale and I need to find answers before make an offer.Any ideas? Thanks.

You mean like this fellow moparts member's car? I have seen pictures of a few RMs having what appears to be factory installed body side moldings on the detail line with silver paint below. Can't find anything in the ordering documents for 72' that would make it easy to order the car built that way. The moldings from the factory would be clipped to studs welded to the sheet metal, almost impossible to replicate after the fact. I would think if they were installed in the field the clips would be screwed in place.

Check the body stampings, core support and cowl, to see if they match the last 8 of the VIN , if they do check to see if the ares have been tampered with, use a mirror to look at the back side of the cowl under the numbers .

If you do your homework and it looks legit, it probably is. Lots of things came out of the factories that really never should have been, they've been documented time and again.

Both the interior and exterior could be optioned up, so there were different styles available. The best source of this info is, of course, the build sheet. But there is also some trim info on the fender tag.

What kind of grill does it have? If it is an "Egg Crate" type then it is probably a Sat. What about the horn, front valance "RR Bird Head"?
In the picture that was shown above (the Blue one) has a real 72 RR grill. The top of the cowl has a vin as well.

I won't be able the see the car again for another week to check #'s, but he did mention that the grille was incorrect.Supposedly the previous owner couldn't find a 72 runner grille. Are the front valances the same from a 72 RR to a Satellite?

The 72 RR Grill is the best part. I think it's the best B Body grill ever. Buy it or not and that'll be the hardest part to find.
The 71 and 72 had different ornaments for the upper valance. The 72 had a clear plastice round thing with a RR head inside. I kind of wonder why it has a black dash and not blue. Also, what kind of exhast is there? If it was a 318 it would have a muffler hanger on the right side and no mount on the left (you can check that as well). But a quick look at the top of the cowl for the vin would work. It's not like this is a HEMI car that they welded all vins to the cowl and rad support.
