I bought a 70 Challenger R/T Original BB motor is long gone and there is a 360 in its place. The car came with a new carb on it and it is an Edelbrock. I cannot find a fix for this problem so I started to that the throttle linkage may or may not be the original to car or we have a jerry rig unit in it. Problem is this: Remove the aircleaner, everything is OK Aircleaner on, when depressing the throttle, the cable rises upward in the travel and hits the bottom of the aircleaner. It is like something is on backwards or missing, I have never had an Edelbrock carb so I am a Dummy with this.....

Are you using the special Mopar throttle lever extension on the Edelbrock? (Edelbrock P/N 1481)

John, thanks for the reply, I have NO idea what is on there or what he is using. I guess the best thing I do is take a picture for you and everyone to see what it looks like.
I will do that when I get home from work this evening....

The pics show the linkage hooked to the generic GM carb lever that is common on most aftermarket carbs, the Mopar throttle lever extension places the carb stud in the correct Mopar position.

I just saw it on there website, at least I know what I am looking for......
Now all I need is a picture of haw it all looks together and I will be happy.....
once you install the lever , its sef explanatory as to how it connects to the carb , you put the mopar throttle lever shaft , part that the cable and the throttle valve lever connect to , and it then hooks up and looks like the regular mopar linkage .
i hope the car wasn't driven alot like that , the throttle lever for the trans isn't even remotely working properly .

John Kunkle above was right. I've been doing a lot of research on this lately because I found myself in the same situation that you are...I bought a car with the intake and carb replaced. Mine is a big block with the Holley Dominator intake and an Eddy carb. But the basics of our situation are the same...someone replaced intake and carb but did a pez-poor job of jury rigging the linkages. But let's talk about your situation. From the digging I've done around in junkyards, looking for anything useful, I can see that the linkage you've got is cobbled together out of mismatched parts, and the long rod that's strapped to the kickdown assembly is entirely WRONG. Maybe someone out there managed to get it to work, but I don't see how, considering that when you go to WOT, that carb stud won't do anything except slide along the bar...at the very least, for it to move the kickdown rod, there'd have to be some sort of limiter. You wanted to see what the linkage would look like, well, based on your kickdown linkage bar (the one with the U-shaped bend in it), I think that the linkage looks a lot like the picture you see in this eBay ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-MoPar...sspagenameZWDVWNow, I'm not telling you to buy it, I'm saying that it's got an exploded parts diagram which is typical for small blocks and more specifically, seems to match your kickdown rod. I seem to recall reading that you have a 360 and this is the bracket from a truck 360; couldn't be that different. The bracket listed in the ad is only part of the entire kickdown assembly. I'm sure you already know that the Edelbrock bracket that everyone asked you about (first thing) was the part number 1481, which looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Edelbrock...sspagenameZWDVWI'm guessing that's the one you ordered. I went out and bought one too but it wasn't the magical solution to my problems. It turns out that I needed the big block 4bbl bracket to go with all this, and I don't know anyone who's got one...right now I'm looking into fabricating one (thus all the research I've been doing). So far...no luck. While I was out doing my research on linkages I actually took a few shots of this setup (and grabbed some brackets and spare parts) but I don't have access to them right now, but as soon as I can get them I'll post them here. --Dave

Dave, thanks, the exploded view helps alot, I did get my part, 1481, and yes I can see that I am still missing the additional trans rods needed to complete this makeover. Please post more info if you have additional pics on any other parts you have made to work to get your problem solved. Nick

Ok, here are the pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/28311612@N03/with/2723190687/Take a look at the 87 and 85 Ram shots. All of those are examples of the linkage for a truck small block. The shots with the white background show the throttle brackets, with two small-block brackets put side-by-side for comparison, and the rest of the shots showing the "higher" of the two. Note that the higher of the two has an extra high "extention" bracket which is for the cruise-control cable. (This can also be seen in the shots of the complete linkages, if you look carefully.) (You can ignore the rest of the shots in blue, that's my carb & linkag setup...the one I desperately need a big-block throttle bracket for...that nobody seems to have or want to part with. That's why I'm bending the one I've got to make my own.) Hope this is helpful. --Dave
