All I know about the shifter is that it came from some A body car dont know the year or make. Which brings up another question, everyone that sells shifters for these advertises that only e body shifters will work in an Ebody, whats the difference?

While it is true that the levers coming out the bottom of the E-body shifter tower have a very different offset from all other shifters it is not true that it is the only one that will fit. I have had Hurst Super Shifters and stock E-body rods in 2 e-bodies. They both fit perfect. Remember to use e-body shift levers on the transmission.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Thats good news, so I can buy a new regular hurst super comp shifter which is alot cheaper than an ebody shifter, and it will work fine? Also back to the orginal post does anyone know the differnce between the 72 and the 73 as far as the reverse rod?

1973-4 reverse rod: http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=LR792A

1970-2 rod: http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=LR854A

Either rod will work on any E-body, the 1973-74 rods were made different for the B-body cars, because of the transmission crossmember.

The only issue on an E-body is with TTI exhaust systems, then you must use the 1970-2 style rod. The 1973-4 rod interferes with the crossover.
