Car Dana 60 : 3" axletubes, Pinion snubber mount, Heavy, Insane price tag

Truck Dana 60: Most have larger and thicker axle tubes, No pinion snubber mount, Many have floating axles, real heavy, Scrap price - buy it by the pound

If you buy a truck 60 and have it cut it will be somewhat heavier than a car 60 because the center is thicker just about everywhere and the tubes are bigger and thicker. Brackets will need to be altered to fit larger tubes. If weight is an issue then get an aftermarket housing from Moser or Strange. DrDiff can set you up with what you need.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

hi, dana 60 have four weights. 1/2 ton ford pickup, 1967 -1972 is the lightest, passenger car mopar is next heavier, 3/4 ton pickup, one ton pickup is the heaviest. jeep used a dana 60 also, it has 2 3/4 dia axle tubes. the weight difference is in the center section. the 1/2 ton ford is 35 # more over a 8 3/4.

Buy a truck Dana same some $$, Buy a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. Watch out for the Heavy duty Dana's you don't want one of those units. They are marked with a HD60 on inside of the housing.

If you want to e-mail me, I have the chart in an excel format that is somewhat sortable, as the chart gives Dana 44,60,61,70,80,fronts and rears. I have a tab on the sheet that narrows it down to just the 60-rears.

'75 Plymouth Duster
Phase I 451 906/590/2-660 10.75/126
Phase II 451 Stage VI/590/1050 9.82/135
Phase III 383 906/Victor-Pump gas 11.30/119

Nothing wrong with the Dana 60 HD's.
In fact, it was preferred when using a 4 gear.
Ask Mr. 4 Speed, Herb Mc.
Seen a couple in his shop back in the day.
More ridgidity for a couple lbs.
Try and spread one vs a std housing.
Unless you need to save every ounce then you should be using a 9".
If I had a choice I'd pick the HD every time.
